Purikura in Japantown

At the end of the week we are moving out of the city; in September we are traveling to Poland. So during the weekend we did a little bit of sightseeing.

We originally had planned to drive to Chinatown (where wonderful frozen teas are sold), but because the weekends there could be very crowded, we opted for Japantown.

At the beginning we had to eat. A restaurant with raman soups, recommended by my Japanese friend, turned out to be on the second floor, and although Dean was up to the challenge of carrying the stroller up the stairs, it was too crowded anyway. Not far away we discovered a nice venue with delicious sushi and bento meals. Before we even received menus, two miso soups were instantly served. The restaurant’s decoration included pictures with the mayor of San Francisco (first American with Asian roots elected for this position) and of Japanese Prime Minister of Japan having dinner with the President of the United States.

Later we went to the Japan Center Mall. Dean wanted to see a famous Japanese bookstore, and I found a fun place to take pictures. Japanese purikura is a very popular style of decorating photos taken at photo boots.  Scroll down to see our results 🙂

The mall reminded me of underground shopping centers located in Kiev. It is full of small shops with various gadgets, souvenirs, dvd rentals, small cafes and places to eat.

In the end (we had bought only two-hours parking) we sampled a tasty a frozen yogurt with colorful toppings.

And in the evening I started to go through a comic book entitled Cool Japan GuideWho knows maybe I will need it one day?:)
