It’s January 2016

January 2016 passes here a little rainy, but quite calmly. Our daughter grows like a weed, we already have the first da-da (to Dean’s delight), and we are simply waiting her to start crawilng.

We discuss various plans and projects for the New Year, including a gradual renovation of our basement, as El Niño storm worsened its condition. We would also like to finally see the beautiful  Lake Tahoe, located not so far from us. And I have finally learned to cook barszcz

This month we also went to cinema at the nearby Oakland. It has special Baby Brigade screenings for parents with children. We watched Spielberg’s political thriller Bridge of Spies, and luckily Rose had slept through most of it.

However, the next day I decided to leave Dean as a babysitter and I went alone to the cinema to the movie Brooklyn. It tells the story of a brave young immigrant girl from Ireland, who decides on a lonely journey for a better life in America.

It is hard to imagine how once people traveled on boats for weeks across the Atlantic.

The film has a touching scene, showing when finally the long-awaited letter from his family arrives. And, what a wonderful women’s fashion from the fifties! Marvel!

After the first ups and downs of living away from family town, the main protagonist says that she feels as she is somewhere halfway between America and Ireland. I often think alike.

Our new house and the birth of Rose certainly rooted me more in the American reality. We have made some new aquitances in Berkeley, and we even took on the role of housesitters of our neighbors home.

With easy access to the information I however see how much I miss not being in Poland each day. Not needing to force any more decisive identity, I will probably feel somewhere in between for a quite long time.

But even so I am optimistic for the New Year 🙂

Happy New Year!
